The Hearts of Clayton After-School Program is designed to offer high school students a chance to develop leadership skills, make positive changes in their schools, gain support for graduation, develop a career plan for after graduation, gain knowledge in health, fitness and financial literacy and much more. The students are given a chance to help develop this outstanding and unique program. This program is in collaboration with Clayton County School.
Youth involved with the Hearts of Clayton After School Program will be involved in the initial planning and development stages of the program by creating and conducting student surveys that will be distributed to high school students, parents and teachers to assess the needs and interest of the youth and their families. Youth will create a solid core group of youth that will work hand-in-hand with the staff to help develop a program that will benefit the entire community and to assure that the goals and outcomes are met in a positive and professional manner.
The students will participate in work enrichment/internships, career and job development and continuing education exploration. Speakers from the business community, colleges, technical schools, internship programs and the Department of Labor will address our student body. Students will also plan events and/or activities that engage local government officials and state legislators. The program will offer workshops for the students as well as their families pertaining to college applications, college prep-exams, financial aid, scholarships, employment and other topics pertaining to continued education.
